Halloween Costumes for Music Teachers

Halloween Costumes for Music Teachers

Is it just me who is always caught off guard by Halloween? For many music teachers, this is the time of year when we often feel busier than ever. We might be planning repertoire for our winter concert, or prepping for conferences in November. If Halloween caught you by surprise, I’ve compiled this post to help you find some easy options for Halloween costumes that are easy and quick to order on Amazon. And yes, some of these options are t-shirts, because I know many of us prefer to keep things simple and comfortable! Whatever your preference is, you should find a Halloween costume in this post that meets your needs!

Music Genres Themed Halloween Costumes

I love the idea of dressing up as an artist or figure from a particular musical genre, especially if it’s a genre students aren’t familiar with! It’s a great opportunity to teach students about country music, pop, or reggae! Want to really lean into the theme? Check out my genre-themed music lessons on TPT!

Classroom Connection Idea: After dressing up as your chosen character, challenge students to identify what genre you represent, and name a song that fits it! It’s a fun icebreaker that sneaks in a quick listening or discussion activity.

1. Three Piece Reggae Music Costume

Colorful tie-dye shirt, reggae-inspired hat with long faux dreadlocks, and round rainbow sunglasses arranged as a Halloween costume idea for music teachers.

When a music teacher needs to throw together something fast, this Halloween costume is as easy as it gets. Just don the T-shirt, hat, and colorful sunglasses, and you’re instantly a Reggae musician!

Your students might have some questions about this costume, especially if they’re unfamiliar with Reggae music. If that’s the case, you can always play some Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, or use my Reggae music lesson on TPT for a quick lesson!

2. Country Singer Halloween Costume

Music teacher dressed in a pink fringe jumpsuit with musical notes and a blonde curly wig, posing in a fun country-music-inspired Halloween costume.

I love the Dolly Parton vibes of this next Halloween costume! Full of fringe, and decorated with sparkly music notes! This is another quick option for Halloween day! Don’t forget to pair it with my Country music genre resource—it’s free on TPT!

3. Purple Prince-Inspired Halloween Costume

Music teacher wearing a purple jacket, ruffled white shirt, and black pants, holding a guitar as a rock star Halloween costume.

Music class just got funkier! Check out this complete Prince-inspired Halloween costume, complete with a purple jacket, ruffled shirt, inflatable guitar, and wig. Don’t forget to grab these retro shades for the full effect!

Musical Instrument Halloween Costumes for Music Teachers

These next ideas might be a little silly, but what’s a better costume idea for a music teacher than a musical instrument itself? It’s instantly recognizable by even your youngest students, it’s school-appropriate, and sure to put an instant smile on everyone’s face. 🙂

Classroom Connection Idea: Let students match your costume to a sound on a recording! You could even play a short sound clip from Danse Macabre, and have the students raise their hands when they hear the violin section!

1. Violin Halloween Costume

Music teacher wearing a violin costume with a printed wooden instrument design and scroll hat, holding a bow as a creative Halloween outfit.

Here’s another super simple Halloween costume that you can easily pair with black leggings and a long-sleeved shirt. The costume will be super breathable too because it’s made of cotton. Just toss on the tunic and headpiece, and you’re good to go! It even comes with a little bow and a violin sound chip that interacts with it! Easy, and perfect for a music teacher!

2. Bass Drum Halloween Costume

Music teacher wearing a bass drum costume with the words “Beat It” on the drumhead, holding a mallet for a humorous Halloween outfit.

Prefer to beat your own drum? This bass drum Halloween costume might be for you! Also made of cotton, this costume is a one-piece tunic that you can easily throw over your teacher clothes right before the parade. This is another interactive Halloween costume that comes with a mallet and an embedded bass drum sound chip!

Decades-Themed Halloween Costumes

What about representing music from other decades? It’s a great way to bring music history to life and inspire your students to learn about the music of the past!

Classroom Connection Idea: Try having the students guess what decade your costume represents, then share a popular song from that era. It’s a fun way to connect music history to the present day!

1. 50’s Elvis-Inspired Halloween Costume

Music teacher dressed as Elvis Presley in a white jumpsuit with a red cape and sunglasses, striking a performance pose for Halloween.

Why not wear a Halloween costume inspired by the King of Rock & Roll? This show-stopping look is complete with a cape, statement belt, and red scarf. You’re guaranteed to get a lot of giggles from the students with this cool costume they won’t soon forget.

Want to take it up a notch? Grab this wig and sunglasses to elevate the look!

2. 80’s Punk Rock Costume with Inflatable Guitar

Rock star Halloween costume set for music teachers featuring a red bandana, long wig, sunglasses, fake mustache, tattoo sleeves, gloves, and toy guitar.

If you have Punk Rock t-shirts in your wardrobe, or even a plain black tee, you can easily put together a punk rock look with the help of this costume kit! This Halloween costume comes with a lot of fun accessories, including:

  • Aviator Shades
  • Long-Haired Punk Rock Wig
  • Studded Gloves
  • Head Scarf
  • Faux Tattoo Sleeves
  • Inflatable Electric Guitar

*Tip: Make sure you check out the listing, because there are three different punk rock looks to choose from!

3. 80’s Rapper Tracksuit Costume

Hip-hop inspired Halloween costume set for music teachers featuring a red tracksuit, gold chain, bucket hat, oversized glasses, and inflatable boombox.

Maybe you’d prefer to represent the eighties with this rapper tracksuit costume! School appropriate, this Halloween costume includes a bucket hat, glasses, a chain, and a giant inflatable boombox. Perfect for a Hip Hop-inspired look!

4. 80’s Salt ‘N Pepa Inspired Halloween Costume

Music teacher wearing a gold and white “Music Play” jacket with black pants and silver accessories for a stylish Halloween costume.

Yes, it’s another eighties hip hop inspired costume, but this costume find is too vibrant to leave out! It comes with a bright, golden metallic jacket, a full black leotard, and fashionable metal chain. Push it into your cart for a really good Halloween costume!

Halloween Costumes Inspired by Characters from Musicals

Add a theatrical touch to Halloween with these musical-inspired Halloween costumes!

Classroom Connection Idea: Introduce a short sing-along or film clip to your students from the musical. Even a minute or two of recognition helps students make connections between storytelling and music.

1. Maria from The Sound of Music

Long-sleeve black dress with blue pinstripe apron-style pinafore and pockets; classic governess-style Halloween costume for music teachers.

Maria is such an iconic character for a music teacher to dress as on Halloween! This costume features the classic nun apron dress worn by Maria in the opening movie scene. The kit includes a button down dress and apron; I also recommend this Maria wig to complete the look!

2. Mary Poppins-Inspired Halloween Costume

Another iconic character played by Julie Andrews is everyone’s favorite nanny, Mary Poppins! This is a full costume complete with the button down jacket, red neck tie, flower hat, and parrot umbrella handle!

3. Bert-Inspired Halloween Costume

Man wearing a brown coat, checked vest, red scarf, and flat cap while holding a chimney brush prop; classic musical-inspired Halloween costume for music teachers.

Speaking of Mary Poppins and musicals, why not dress as Bert? This playful chimney sweep costume comes with a jacket, vest, neck tie, and hat! Don’t forget to grab a chimney sweep prop to complete the look! (not included with costume)

Halloween T-Shirts for Music Teachers

Okay, I get it. You don’t want to fuss over Halloween this year! That’s completely valid! If you want to throw on a quick Halloween T-shirt and call it a day, check out these fun options below ⬇️

1. This Is My Scary Music Teacher Costume T-Shirt

Black Halloween T-shirt that says “This is my scary music teacher costume” with spiderweb, ghost, and pumpkin graphics.

Maybe you’re over Halloween. Maybe you don’t want to teach in a Halloween costume this year. Either way, this adorable tee is sure to catch a few eyes and a couple of giggles on Halloween too.

2. Treble-Making Inmate Shirt for Music Teachers

Orange T-shirt with the phrase “Music Teacher Inmate – Arrested for Treble Making” printed in a distressed black font for a funny Halloween costume.

Show your mischievous students what happens to treble makers with this orange and black inmate tee! Just make sure you have a comeback ready for when your students ask why you went to jail. Here are some of my favorite options:

  • Starting a TikTok trend called “Recorder Rizz”
  • Said “one more time” 48 times.
  • Dropped the hardest boomwhacker beat of 2025

3. Ghosts Playing Music Instruments Halloween T-Shirt

Black Halloween T-shirt with cute cartoon ghosts playing musical instruments like drums, harp, trumpet, and xylophone.

This last one is a personal favorite. I love the playful graphic of the little ghosts playing different musical instruments (I’m giving bonus points for the Cajón!) There’s a lot of different colors available for this t-shirt, but I think black, orange, or purple would work best for Halloween!
